Learnings From First Job

It is very difficult to get your first job in a country like india. A normal person has to compete every where in india specially in mumbai. From the education in the school, university to its first job, second job and life goes on. Normally the struggle for a common mumbai person starts from the pull and push of the local trains and buses. We have many schools and colleges here in Mumbai probably a person living anywhere in Mumbai has a school and a college within an average distance of 15 to 20 minutes, thus a child is admitted to the nearest school to his/her home, maintaining the comfort zone many of us take admission to the nearest colleges as well when we grow up. Some of the brave students takes the decision of spending their college lives far from their homes and their struggle starts at that point, as they are required to travel far from their home for studying and the cheapest options available are buses and trains, which are usually full and everyone trying to board them craves for a seat.

People in local trains are too much, thinking about the seats people just ignores the fact that there is a space for only two people to enter the train at a time. Many times we get to see there are more than two people trying to enter the train and one of them stuck around the middle pole. Now talking about the struggle for first job, although if we see it has been very easy to search for jobs because of the online portals like naukri.com, timesjobs.com and many other portals but these portals increase the competition as everyone has the access to internet nowadays and that is why when we reach the interview place we get to see so many number of candidates sitting out already. Nonetheless it totally depends on the caliber of an individual to secure his/her first job.
Lets have a look at few important learnings hopefully which you will learn from your first job.

First Job

Speaking and Listening skills

Your first job might teach you many things, but one of the important things you will get to learn will be speaking and listening skills. Firstly you will learn how to speak with you superiors and inferiors after that you will learn listening skills from your boss by listening to the assigned work and its deadlines. You know your boss will not reveal all the things every time many of the things you have to understand yourself. You have to understand what your boss wants from you. Simply you will learn both types of communications formal and informal.

Working Hard

Every employee learns hard work in their initial job. Whatever job it may be hard work is to be contributed which in turn brings you more respect and satisfaction. After entering into the first job, hard work is usual as employees are enthusiastic and energized during their first job. Also it is the fear of getting fired which makes you work harder.

Taking Deadlines Seriously

New employees have the habit of taking deadlines lightly, as many students use to take deadlines very easy in schools and colleges. Here on the first job this thing is learnt to work as per the deadlines which brings sometimes extra hours work from home as well, because here employees are required to convince their bosses in order to receive some appreciation or in order to keep them safe from being bullied for the delay.

Importance of Money

When an individual starts earning money they know the importance of every penny, as they know they had worked hard for it. They learn where to spend open heartedly and where to save the money. Along with it individuals learn the importance of time, as being late at office in the beginning can result in salary deductions in many organizations.

Increase in Patience Level

There are employees who are controlled under demanding and difficult boss. The boss can be tough, manipulative and prone to emotional swings. This is a challenging phase and the employee here learns to handle tough boss which results in increase in their patience level by respecting and completing the required tasks by the boss. The employee learns that though there may be frustration it is always good to be patient in some situations.

Getting Used to Problems

An employee in his first job faces a number of challenges and problems. He gets used to facing problems and finds solution for the same. Handling issues is thus a cake walk for them. Hence first job teaches employees to handle issues and challenges with a positive point of view.

Delivering More Than Assigned

First employer is very important for an employee, fortunately your first firm actually gives you the opportunity to learn using their resources. After learning things the employee proves the employer that he is an efficient employee by doing more than what has been assigned to him. This thing shows an inside craving to work for the organization also it creates a little sympathetic feeling in the heart of the boss.

Continuous Learning

You can be a good employee as long as you are in learning mode. An employee wins when he learns everything around him and works as a replacement if someone from his colleagues skips a day to office. It doesn’t make the employer dependent on a specific person.

These were some learnings according to me from my first job, feel free to comment some more learnings if you have in your mind. And keep visiting our website for more articles like this.
